Marketing for Estate Planning Firms

Estate Planning Marketing
For the Client Who Waits Years to Call.

Nobody books an estate plan in a panic. They read about trusts for months, price an online will, ask their accountant, and call when a birth, a diagnosis or a death makes it urgent. We build the search presence that is still there when they finally pick up the phone.

Where Estate Planning Marketing Goes Wrong

Most Estate Planning Sites Are Built for a Client in a Hurry.

Legal marketing playbooks are written for practice areas where the client decides in an afternoon. Estate planning runs on the opposite clock, and a firm marketed like a personal injury shop pays for urgency its clients do not feel.

The site shouts “free consultation” at someone who is not ready.

Most visitors to an estate planning page are months away from signing anything. A page that only asks for the call loses them, and nothing brings them back when the reason to act finally arrives.

You lose the price question to online will companies.

When we pulled the top 10 results for “how much does a will cost” this month, 8 went to insurers, online will services, Reddit, finance publishers and a government site. The firm that explains its flat fees plainly has very little competition from other firms.

Probate is treated as a footnote to estate planning.

Probate searches carry their own volume, and they come from a different person: a grieving adult child with a deadline, not a parent planning ahead. One generic practice page cannot speak to both of them.

Your best referral sources never see your website.

Accountants, financial advisers and elder care managers send a large share of planning clients. Those clients still search the attorney’s name before they call, and a thin bio page wastes a referral you already earned.

The blog still sells estate tax fear.

Since the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the federal exemption is $15 million per person, so very few of your readers will ever owe federal estate tax. Content built on that fear now reads as out of date and misses the incapacity and probate worries that move most families.

Seminar and workshop leads never reach the CRM.

Many firms still fill a room for a trust workshop and then track sign-ups in a spreadsheet. Without one view of seminar, search and referral leads, nobody knows which channel produces signed plans.

What We Do

Estate Planning Marketing, Built Around a Long Decision

Six disciplines, each tuned for a client who researches slowly and decides on a life event.

SEO

Pages for Each Plan, Each Stage of Life

Separate pages for wills, revocable trusts, special needs trusts, powers of attorney, probate and trust administration, each written for the person who searches it and tied to your county.

  • Living trust and will pages by state law
  • Probate and trust administration pages by county
  • Elder law and Medicaid planning pages
  • Attorney Business Profiles where the firm qualifies

AI Search

Ready for the AI Answers That Are Coming

Our own legal ledger found no AI Overview yet for “best estate planning attorney near me.” That leaves time to fix the listings, bar profiles and reviews that AI tools read when they do start answering.

  • Bar directory and Avvo profile cleanup
  • Consistent name, address and phone across directories
  • Reviews that mention the plan type, within ethics rules
  • Quarterly checks of AI answers in your market

Paid Search

Ads for the Moments That Force a Decision

Budget aimed at probate, trust administration and Medicaid planning, where the need is immediate, rather than at broad will searches where online services compete on price.

  • Probate and trust administration campaigns
  • Local Services Ads setup where eligible
  • County level geo targeting
  • Call tracking split by practice area

Content

Plain Answers to the Questions Families Ask

Attorney-reviewed explainers on trusts versus wills, what probate costs in your state, and what happens when someone dies without a plan, each one with a clear next step.

  • Living trust vs will guides for your state
  • Fee pages that explain flat fee pricing
  • Probate timelines and checklists for executors
  • Workshop and webinar landing pages

Web Design

A Site That Works for Two Very Different Visitors

One path for the planner who is comparing options, another for the executor who needs help this week, and attorney bios good enough to close a referral.

  • Planning and probate paths from the homepage
  • Attorney bios with bar admissions and focus
  • Fast, readable pages for older visitors on phones
  • Accessible type sizes and contrast

CRO

Turning Researchers Into Booked Consultations

Low pressure next steps for people who are not ready, such as a planning checklist or a workshop seat, and a fast booking path for the ones who are.

  • Downloadable checklists that start the relationship
  • Online scheduling for planning meetings
  • Intake that captures life event and referral source
  • Follow-up email for leads who do not book

How Estate Planning Search Works

What Makes Estate Planning Marketing Different

Estate planning shares the bar rules of every legal practice area, but very little else. These are the specifics we plan an estate planning engagement around.

Decision Clock

Clients Defer for Years, Then Decide in Days

Estate planning is elective and easy to put off, and it is often triggered by a life event: a new child, a diagnosis, a parent’s decline, a death in the family. Our legal SEO guide sets estate planning against personal injury as the two ends of the legal spectrum, and the playbook flips: education and referral relationships lead, map pack position follows.

AI Search

The AI Surface Is Thin, for Now

In the 11 legal queries we logged for our GEO study, “best estate planning attorney near me” returned no AI Overview at all, and neither did most of the estate planning process questions in the sample. Where Overviews did appear for other practice areas, they leaned on Business Profiles, bar directories, Reddit and YouTube rather than firm websites.

Ethics Rules

Referral Networks Have Rules

Most states follow ABA Model Rule 7.2, which bars paying for recommendations. It allows reciprocal referral agreements with other lawyers or nonlawyer professionals only if the agreement is not exclusive and the client is told it exists. CPA and adviser partnerships have to be built inside that line, and Rule 7.1 still rules out unproven claims about results.

ABA Model Rule 7.2

Tax Law

The Estate Tax Pitch Expired

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed July 4, 2025, set the federal estate and gift tax exemption at $15 million per person from 2026, with no sunset date and inflation adjustments after that. Content that leads with avoiding estate tax now speaks to very few readers. Incapacity planning, probate avoidance and protecting children are the messages that fit most households.

SERP

Online Will Services Own the Price Searches

Insurers, online will companies and finance publishers held most of page one for “how much does a will cost” in our October 2026 pull. A firm can still win there with a fee page that names its flat fee ranges and explains what the online products leave out, without disparaging anyone by name.

Paid Search

Local Services Ads Cover Estate Planning

Estate planning is one of the legal categories in Google Local Services Ads, which sit above standard text ads, charge per lead instead of per click, and require a firm to pass Google’s license and background checks for the Google Screened badge. For a small firm, that is often the cheapest paid lead source to test first.

Client Search Demand

What Estate Planning Clients Actually Search

National monthly searches and keyword difficulty for the queries an estate planning firm can build pages around. Lower difficulty means a firm page can realistically break in.

How We Work

How an Estate Planning Engagement Runs

  1. 01

Sort your practice into planning and administration

We split the work you want more of into two buckets: planning clients who research slowly, and probate or trust administration clients who need help now. Each gets its own keywords, pages and budget, because the person searching is different.

  2. 02

Fix the listings AI and referrals rely on

Business Profile, bar directory listings, attorney bios and reviews come first. They are what a referred client checks before calling, and what AI answers will draw from as the surface for estate planning grows.

  3. 03

Publish the fee and comparison pages

Flat fee ranges, trust versus will explainers for your state, and probate timelines for your county, each reviewed by an attorney at the firm and written inside your state’s advertising rules.

  4. 04

Track signed plans, not just form fills

We tie search, ads, workshop and referral leads to the plans they become, so you can see which source produces signed engagements and which only produces questions.

Common Questions

Estate Planning Lawyers, Answered

Estate planning marketing is the work of getting a firm found and trusted by people planning ahead and by families handling a death. At Brown Bear that means SEO for plan type and probate pages, a clean Business Profile and bar directory presence, paid search aimed at probate and trust administration, fee and comparison content, and tracking that follows a lead through to a signed plan.

In most cases, yes. Online will services and finance sites dominate price searches because few firms publish anything useful. A page that gives your flat fee ranges for a will package or a revocable trust plan, and explains what changes the price, answers the question searchers are asking. Keep it within your state’s advertising rules and avoid naming competitors.

They do different jobs. Planning clients research for months, so SEO and content compound for them. Probate and trust administration clients need help quickly, so paid search and Local Services Ads tend to pay back faster there. Most firms we would work with should run both, with paid budget weighted toward the urgent work.

Less than they do for other legal practice areas, so far. When we logged AI Overviews for 11 legal queries, the search for the best estate planning attorney near me showed none. That will change. The sources AI tools cite for other practice areas, Business Profiles, bar directories, reviews and forums, are the ones worth fixing now.

Generally no. Most states follow ABA Model Rule 7.2, which bars giving anything of value for a recommendation, with narrow exceptions. One exception allows reciprocal referral agreements with other professionals if they are not exclusive and the client is told about them. Check your own state’s version of the rule, and we will build referral marketing that fits inside it.

Our lawyers page covers search marketing for law firms across practice areas. This page is only about estate planning, trust, probate and elder law work, where the client’s timeline, the competitors on page one and the role of referrals are all different from personal injury or criminal defense.

Not as clients yet. Our client work has centered on plastic surgery and medical practices, where we run SEO, AI search and paid search. We have published our own research on legal search and AI citations, and we will walk you through what that research shows for your market before you sign anything.
