Marketing for Insurance Agents

Insurance Agency Marketing
That Writes Policies, Not Clicks.

Personal lines, commercial, life and Medicare each pull a different buyer with a different budget. We build search programs that win the local and niche searches carriers and quote sites leave on the table, and that stay inside the rules your license puts on every ad.

Why Agency Marketing Stalls

Most Agencies Try to Outspend Carriers. That Fight Is Already Lost.

National carriers and comparison sites spend more on one quote keyword than a local agency spends all year. The agencies that grow online pick searches where a licensed local advisor is the better answer, then own them.

You are bidding on “car insurance quotes” next to the carriers.

Personal auto quote searches are some of the most expensive clicks in search advertising, and the buyer often wants the cheapest price in two minutes. An agency budget burns out by mid-morning and the leads that do come in shop you against five others.

Your site lists every line and explains none of them.

A page that says “auto, home, life, business” in one paragraph gives Google nothing to rank. The contractor looking for general liability, the restaurant owner pricing a business owner’s policy and the new homeowner in a flood zone each need their own page.

Bought leads are your whole pipeline.

Shared internet leads get sold to several agents at once, so you pay to start a race. Owned search traffic costs more time up front, but the person who calls found you and nobody else.

Three producers, one Google listing.

Google lets public-facing practitioners such as insurance agents hold profiles of their own. When every review lands on a single office listing, the commercial producer and the life specialist never show up as the name people can ask for.

The ad copy was never checked against your license.

Insurance advertising is regulated state by state. A claim about savings, a missing license number or a Medicare ad without the required disclaimer is a compliance problem, not just a weak ad.

Renewals and cross-sells live in a separate silo.

The cheapest policy to write is the second one for a client you already have. Search and email programs that ignore the book of business leave umbrella, life and commercial cross-sells sitting in the agency management system.

What We Do

Insurance Agency Marketing, Line by Line

Six disciplines, planned around the lines you write, the states you hold licenses in and the clients you want more of.

SEO

Line and Niche Pages That Rank Locally

A page for each line and each niche you write, tied to the towns you serve, with what the coverage does, who needs it and how to get a quote from a person.

  • Commercial pages by trade: contractors, restaurants, trucking
  • Home, auto and umbrella pages for each office market
  • Life and Medicare pages written for the decision, not the jargon
  • A Business Profile for every office and public-facing producer

AI Search

Recommended When Buyers Ask AI for an Agent

People now ask ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers who writes builder’s risk or which local agent handles restaurants. We make your niches and carrier appointments plain enough for those answers to cite.

  • Niche-first agency and producer copy
  • Matching name, address and phone across Google, Apple, Bing and Yelp
  • Trade association and carrier locator listings
  • Tracking of AI referrals and brand mentions

Paid Search

Ads Aimed Where Carriers Do Not Bid Hard

We skip the national quote auctions and build campaigns on commercial niches, local modifiers and the lines your carriers pay you best to write.

  • Commercial and specialty line campaigns
  • Town and county geo targeting around each office
  • Ad copy reviewed for state advertising rules
  • Call tracking by line of business

Content

Coverage Explainers a Licensed Agent Signs

Content that answers the questions buyers ask before they call: what a policy excludes, what changes the premium, when a bundle actually saves money. Each piece carries the reviewing agent’s name and license.

  • Producer bylines with state license numbers
  • Coverage gap and claim scenario articles
  • Seasonal content for storm, flood and open enrollment periods
  • Cross-sell guides for clients already on your books

Web Design

A Site Built Around Lines of Business

Navigation by personal, commercial and life lines, producer pages that stand on their own, and quote requests that work on a phone in a parking lot.

  • Line and niche architecture
  • Producer profiles with licenses and specialties
  • Required license and disclaimer text built into templates
  • Location pages for every office

CRO

Quote Requests Your Producers Can Act On

Forms that collect what a producer needs to quote, routed to the right person, with consent language your compliance lead has approved.

  • Short first step, details on the second
  • Routing by line, state and producer
  • Consent capture that holds up under TCPA
  • Lead reporting by line and source

How Insurance Search Works

What Makes Insurance Agency Marketing Different

An insurance license comes with advertising rules most marketers have never read. These are the insurance specifics we plan every campaign around.

Licensing

Your License Number Is Part of the Ad

Producers are licensed state by state, and some states put that license into the creative itself. California’s Insurance Code section 1725.5 requires the license number on business cards, written price quotes and print ads distributed in the state, and a 2022 amendment extended disclosure to emails starting in 2023. We build those requirements into templates instead of fixing them ad by ad.

TCPA

Consent Rules Changed in 2025

In January 2025 the Eleventh Circuit vacated the FCC’s one-to-one consent rule in a case brought by an insurance marketing trade group, one business day before it was set to take effect. Prior express consent is still required for autodialed and prerecorded marketing calls, so every quote form we build captures clear consent for your agency by name.

Medicare

Medicare Ads Carry a Federal Disclaimer

Agents who market Medicare Advantage or Part D plans count as third-party marketing organizations under CMS rules, and their websites and ads must carry a standardized disclaimer stating how many organizations and plans they represent. Medicare pages and campaigns get that language before they launch, not after a carrier audit.

Auction

Quote Keywords Are Priced for Carrier Budgets

Semrush puts the average click on “home insurance quotes” at $66.47 and “business insurance quote” at $42.90. “Commercial insurance near me” runs $23.00, and searches that name a trade or a town reach buyers who want advice, which is where a local agent wins.

Local Services

For Agencies, Google’s Pay Per Lead Ads Cover Two States

Google’s Local Services help page lists insurance agency as a category in California and Florida only. Agencies in those states can test pay per lead ads above the regular results. Everywhere else, the map pack and regular search ads are the paid options.

AI Search

AI Answers Read Your Listings Before Your Site

ChatGPT added maps for local businesses in December 2024, and AI answers lean on business listings and third-party profiles when they name a local provider. In the AI visibility audits we run for medical practices, the most common error is small variations in name, address and phone across those listings, and agencies with several offices and producers are prone to the same drift.

The Searches Insurance Buyers Run

National monthly searches and keyword difficulty for queries an agency can build pages and campaigns around. Lower difficulty means a local agency page has a realistic path to page one.

How We Work

How an Insurance Agency Engagement Runs

  1. 01

    Pick the lines worth winning

We start with your carrier appointments, licensed states, commission levels and the clients you want more of, then check which of those searches a local agency can realistically rank for. Personal auto quotes rarely make the list. A trade niche in your county often does.

  2. 02

Clean up listings and producer pages

A Business Profile for each office and each public-facing producer, one consistent name, address and phone everywhere, and producer pages with licenses, specialties and reviews. Maps and AI answers respond to this work first.

  3. 03

Build line and niche pages with compliant copy

One page per line and niche, reviewed by a licensed producer, with license numbers and any required disclaimers built in. Paid search covers those niches while the pages earn their positions.

  4. 04

Report on quotes and bound policies

Calls and forms tracked by line, office and source, matched against what your agency management system shows was actually bound. You see which lines pay back and which only produce shoppers.

Common Questions

Insurance Agencies, Answered

Insurance agency marketing is the work of getting a licensed agency found and chosen by people shopping for coverage. At Brown Bear that means local SEO for each line and niche you write, Business Profiles for every office and producer, paid search aimed at commercial and local searches instead of national quote auctions, and AI search work so ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers describe your agency by its real specialties.

For most independents, yes, as long as the plan targets searches a local agency can win. Semrush shows 14,800 monthly searches for insurance agents near me and 5,400 for commercial insurance near me, with keyword difficulty far below national quote terms. Niche pages for the trades and towns you serve compound over time, while every bought lead has to be paid for again.

Usually within limits. Captive agents typically work inside the carrier’s brand rules and often its website platform, so the first step is reading your agent agreement. Your Google Business Profile, reviews, local listings and community content are usually still yours to build, and they are what decides who shows up in the map pack.

We build known requirements into every template, such as license numbers where a state requires them, the CMS disclaimer on Medicare pages and clear consent language on forms. We are not your compliance department or your attorney, so final copy for regulated claims goes through whoever signs off on advertising at your agency.

Most agencies need both for a while. Bought leads fill the pipeline now, but shared leads are sold to several agents at once and stop the day you stop paying. Owned search traffic takes months to build and keeps producing after that. We usually suggest shifting budget from purchased leads to owned channels as rankings come in.

No. Our client work has centered on medical practices, mostly plastic surgery, where we run SEO, AI search and paid search in a heavily regulated category. Insurance shares a lot with that work, from licensing rules to trust signals to local search. We will show you the research for your market before you commit to anything.
